A giraffe is the world’s tallest mammal, thanks to its towering long necks and legs. It’s leg alone is taller than many humans like about 6 feet. Being the tallest animal on land, a giraffe has the longest tongue measuring 40cm and it weighs 900-1200 tones.
This guy will spread legs when drinking water due to the fact that it’s too tall and it will need proper blood circulation when taking water. Did you know a giraffe can go for several weeks without taking water? it’s true a giraffe can actually last longer without drinking water than the camel. It will go up to three weeks without a drink. When it do drinks, it’s been known to down 12 gallons in one sitting.
We humans, we sleep a lot, but they sleeps 5-30 minutes a day, can you imagine it sleeps while standing! So, giraffes go to a watering hole together and take turns watching for predators. If water is easily available, like in zoos, they can drink 10 gallons (38 liters) a day.
Female giraffes often return to where they were born to give birth. Once there, their calves receive a rough welcome into the world, falling over five feet to the ground. Fortunately, baby giraffes can stand up and even run within a hour of being born.
